Yanukovych stood up for Medvedchuk
Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych mentioned threats against Ukrainian Choice leader Viktor Medvedchuk when he answered a question about an assassination attempt on him at a press conference in Moscow today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are threats against Viktor Medvedchuk. He has been in politics for a long time. I can say that he always had his own opinion. I often disagreed with him when I was president. But I didn’t give anyone the task to shut his mouth and arrange any provocations. This is all scary and unacceptable, despite the fact that the current government talks about democratic principles at every corner,” Yanukovych said.
Journalists took this as a statement about an impending assassination attempt on Medvedchuk.
“I had no purpose today to talk about this topic. Work is underway in this regard. I don’t know, only about Medvedchuk. Maybe for me too. But such information exists. Taking this opportunity, I would like to appeal to employees of the special services, law enforcement agencies, and the military not to carry out criminal orders from the authorities. The power will change, and we will definitely have to answer for all these crimes,” Yanukovych said.
According to him, the Ukrainian government is looking for an opportunity to influence any of its critics, including Medvedchuk.
