He stated this during a joint briefing with Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

“We have no illusions that this (the situation in Donbass – editor’s note) can be resolved by war. The solution is only diplomacy, but Ukraine should not unilaterally maintain peace,” said the US Secretary of State.

In turn, Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that negotiations on Donbass should be held in the “Kiev format” - with a consolidated position developed by Ukraine, the EU, the USA, Germany and France.

At the same time, he emphasized that Russia must be stopped so that “the offensive does not continue deep into Ukraine.”

“Only God knows what Putin’s ultimate goal is, but it is clear that this Kremlin plan is a threat to both Ukraine and Europe,” the Ukrainian prime minister believes.
