Thus, the seller of the Kyiv store “Kramnitsa Patriota” Karina Krachkovskaya told the publication that over the past six months the number of customers has become significantly less.
“A thick stack of rugs with the faces of Russian President Vladimir Putin and former Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych, lonelyly hidden behind a closet, is the best confirmation of her words,” the publication writes and reports the words of the seller, who says that rugs with Yanukovych are not taken at all, despite the decline prices, and only sometimes ATO fighters take it from Putin.
The magazine indicates that immediately after the victory of the Maidan and the start of the ATO, a completely different picture of patriotic sentiments was noted.
“Marketers immediately rode the wave, realizing that love for the Motherland can be monetized,” recalls “Correspondent.” “The counters were filled with embroidered shirts, flags and T-shirts with the coat of arms of Ukraine and inscriptions like PTN-PNH.” However, a year after the start of the ATO and political transformations in the country, experts note, the trend of aggressive patriotism first weakened its position and then began to slowly leave the market, giving way to the usual pre-war strategies. If previously such goods were scattered like hot cakes, now more and more often they receive only a cursory glance.”
“The reasons for this, in addition to the prosaic oversaturation of the market with patriotic content, may be much deeper, professional marketers believe,” the magazine emphasizes. “Bravura pride quickly gave way to disappointment from the absence of a blitzkrieg in the Donbass, a severe economic crisis and empty consumer pockets.”
