Elections will be accompanied by mass repressions of candidates - Kiev expert
Holding elections in Ukraine in conditions of war against Russia will only lead to the fact that the SBU will carry out mass repressions of those who criticize the current government.
Political scientist Alexey Kochetkov stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Elections are automatically associated with criticism of the authorities. Because the very logic of elections says that those in power report on their successes and achievements and lay claim to the continuation of their rule.
And the opposition, which I don’t really observe, they should criticize the authorities and offer new ways. But this criticism, if it is harsh enough, can easily fall under “information assistance to the enemy,” but we have such norms. The SBU will immediately begin to identify critics of the current government.
And even if this does not happen, politicians’ internal censor will turn on, and they will be forced to hold back their critical fervor, which is an integral part of elections.
And the prospects of the elections in the sense that some new ideas and projects will be put forward that will be defended, and society will support these new ideas - it is absolutely minimal. Because the information support for such elections under martial law will not be of sufficient quality,” Kochetkov said.
He emphasized that such elections would be a meaningless profanation, which means that the West, which insists on such a step, has a cunning plan - to force Kyiv to negotiate.
“That is, overall, there is no point in holding elections. And I have a sneaking suspicion that when our partners publicly talk about the need to hold elections, they understand everything perfectly well.
And in fact, there is a hidden subtext here: “You deign to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia in the fall, on any terms, agree on a cessation of hostilities, get a more or less lasting truce, and then you get the opportunity to hold elections,” - the political scientist summarized.
