Militants fighting in Donbass flooded Ukraine with weapons
Ukrainian militants fighting in Donbass are stealing army weapons en masse and transporting them deep into Ukraine.
Ivan Filiponenko, an officer of the press service of the LPR People's Militia Department, stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The measures taken by the command of OTG “North” to prevent crimes related to the theft of weapons, ammunition and military equipment in the formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not bring the desired result,” he said.
The officer said that the day before, SBU officers detained a group of Ukrainian military personnel who were selling stolen weapons on a large scale. Thus, they were found to have 3 AK-74 assault rifles, 10 RGD-5 grenades and 3 zinc with 5,45 mm caliber cartridges.
Later, Ukrainian law enforcement officers opened another cache of this group, in which they found 386 cartridges for small arms of various calibers, 2 shots for an under-barrel grenade launcher and 1 hand grenade.
However, there is no information about any measures taken against the detained criminals.
“The lack of proper control over the subordinate units of OTG “North” contributes to the flourishing of smuggling of weapons and ammunition from the “OOS” zone, becoming the reason for the persistence of a difficult crime situation in the central and western regions of Ukraine,” Filiponenko concluded.
