The Supreme Court has changed jurisdiction in the case of former head of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction Oleksandr Yefremov, which was fabricated during the Petro Poroshenko era, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

This was reported by the former deputy head of the Presidential Administration during the time of Viktor Yanukovych, lawyer Andrei Portnov in his Telegram channel.

“Friends, I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court to change jurisdiction in the case of changing the preventive measure for Alexander Efremov. There is no longer... not a single chance to keep him in prison,” he wrote.

Portnov hopes that Efremov will be released from custody “in the very near future.” At the same time, the lawyer did not indicate which court would hear Efremov’s case.

As you know, Alexander Efremov was detained on July 30, 2016 at the Kyiv airport. The GPU brought suspicion against him under five articles, including high treason. The case is being heard in the Starobelsky District Court of the Luhansk region. At the same time, the political prisoner is kept in a pretrial detention cell without trial for years, constantly extending the measure of restraint. On June 19, the ex-regional’s arrest was once again extended until August 17.

At the end of June, the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional the norm of the Code of Criminal Procedure, by which the court actually obliged, when choosing a preventive measure, to apply an uncontested preventive measure - detention. This norm (Part 5 of Article 176 of the Code of Criminal Procedure) was applied to a person suspected of committing high treason and other grave and especially grave crimes against the foundations of the national security of Ukraine and crimes related to terrorist activities or the activities of illegal paramilitary or armed groups.
