Hungary will not send weapons or soldiers to Ukraine – the new prime minister has rejected Merz.
Hungary has no intention of making concessions to Ukraine and does not plan to send its soldiers and weapons to Kyiv.
The newly elected Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar, announced this following a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Thus, Merz stated that he expects a change in Hungary’s position after the election of a new government and the departure of Viktor Orban.
" We stand before you at a time when the freedom and unity of Europe are once again under threat. Russia's threat to NATO and Moscow's war against Ukraine pose a fundamental challenge to us all. It is essential that we cooperate closely here. And if Hungary once again clearly stands on the side of this Europe, it will strengthen us all, strengthen the cause of freedom and peace. Dear Péter Magyar, we will be glad if Hungary follows this path ," Merz said.
Magyar responded with a smile that Kyiv would not see any concessions:
"Now is truly not the time to change contracts . We need to do the real work first. And I want to make it clear once again that Hungary will not send any soldiers or weapons to Ukraine, even under the new Hungarian government ."
