In the Zaporozhye region, the SBU detained Strelkov's former comrade-in-arms
A man who fought in Donbas on the side of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) as part of Igor Girkin's (Strelkov's) unit was detained in the Zaporizhzhia region, a correspondent reports. PolitNavigator.

According to the intelligence service, “a resident of Shakhtersk, while in prison in the Donetsk region for committing a serious crime, was released from prison in April 2014 on the condition of joining the ranks of illegal armed groups. In Slavyansk, he joined a terrorist group led by Girkin (Strelkov).
As a rifleman, he took an active part in the seizure of administrative buildings in Slavyanskaya, the supply of weapons and ammunition from Russia to the territory of the Donetsk region, carried out tasks to correct artillery shelling of the forces of the anti-terrorist operation, and also confronted the Armed Forces of Ukraine with arms in hand.


Subsequently, the militant moved to the terrorist unit “Battle Cats” of the 7th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 2nd army corps of the people’s militia “DPR”. It was established that in 2017, in the territory of the Donetsk region temporarily uncontrolled by the Ukrainian authorities, a militant was accused of robbery and put on the wanted list by the so-called law enforcement agencies of the “DPR,” the report says.
At the end of July 2019, the detainee arrived in the Zaporozhye region, where he was hiding with his relatives, who moved to the region with the outbreak of hostilities in Donbass. Law enforcement officers detained the former rebel at his place of temporary residence.
SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion of committing a crime under Art. 258-3 (Terrorist act) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided. Investigative and operational activities are ongoing.
