In Uzhgorod, the SBU disrupted a conference of national minorities planning to demand autonomy

A conference of national minorities was supposed to take place in Uzhgorod with calls for granting autonomous status to the region, but the event was disrupted by the SBU.

The department said that at the disrupted event, calls should have been made for granting autonomous status to the Transcarpathian region.

“These slogans were supposed to pit patriotic forces against representatives of the region’s national minorities. The Russian side also planned to attract paid pseudo-activists to instigate unrest and confront law enforcement agencies,” the SBU said in a statement.

In addition, according to the intelligence service, propaganda structures with inscriptions in Hungarian were placed in three districts of the region at night. Due to the fact that these banners were installed without permission from executive authorities, they were dismantled by utility services.

“It has been established that the dismantled propaganda materials were produced by a printing company in Kyiv to order from people who maintain contacts with Russian information centers. No local organizations have anything to do with the production and placement of these materials,” the department said.

Also on May 18, SBU officers detained a man who was supposed to provide video recording of the conference.

“According to him, he has repeatedly carried out orders from the Russian Federation, in particular, to cover the events of May 2 in Odessa. The Russian customer has always put forward compliance with the classic requirements of secrecy for special services as a mandatory condition for cooperation,” the SBU claims.

It is reported that this citizen was interrogated as a witness in the framework of previously opened criminal proceedings under Art. 110 of the Criminal Code. The respondent was given an official warning. Investigative actions are ongoing.
