Ukrainian officers and ex-ATO punitive officers prefer earning money abroad to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and “defend” Ukraine.
The mayor of the city of Chertkiv, Vladimir Shmatko, announced this during a press conference in Kiev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There are problems in the defense deployment system in the Ternopil region - those who today have to go to a contract in territorial defense are approximately 50 officers, their salaries are low.
It would seem that we have an enemy here and we are not talking about money, but in the West, when all our adult men and women en masse go abroad and work there to feed their families, today to stand up and sign a contract and defend the country - this is what problem,” he said.
In addition, the political scientist noted that even veterans of the so-called “ATO” do not want to sign a contract with the territorial defense unit.
“At my reception there were ATO veterans, they want to defend the country, but military personnel need to increase their salaries, because it is impossible to serve the Ukrainian army with 14 thousand hryvnia today, because prices for everything are rising, tariffs and so on,” concluded Shmatko .
Territorial Defense is short of personnel – all those capable of fighting are fleeing to Poland to earn money.
