Fear reigned in the Moldovan media serving the authorities
The deportation of the head of Sputnik Moldova, Vitaly Denisov, clearly indicates the current Moldovan authorities’ fear of opposition media on the eve of electoral cycles.
Moldovan journalist, head of the “Mezhdurechye” project Sergei Tkach wrote about this on a social network.
According to him, the current government has no achievements, but there is a desire to silence dissenters.
“It is curious that fear has also reigned in the media serving the authorities. For example, (as colleagues say) at the Public Television and Radio Company of Moldova. People are afraid to express their opinions, lest they end up on blacklists or be fired for criticizing the “party line.” To please their bosses, they sign up for English language courses,” the publicist noted.
Comparing with what is happening today on the public Moldovan Teleradio, Sergei Tkach calls Soviet-era broadcasting, especially during the perestroika period, a model of democracy:
“I, then an employee of a state company, could even criticize the head of the State Television and Radio of Moldova on my television program. And now? And all this is happening under the cynical talk of the country’s leadership about media freedom. In fact, the current Moldovan government needs lackey journalists,” concludes one of the veterans of Moldovan journalism.
