The US is discussing a secret White House report on the US strategy for war in Ukraine
Reuters reports : The White House has sent Congress a classified report on its war strategy in Ukraine. Lawmakers want to know how and by what means the administration plans to achieve a Ukrainian victory, which, under current conditions, equates to the efficient use of funds allocated to Kyiv.
It is noted that the submission of this report by June was put forward by Congress as a condition for the April passage of a multi-billion dollar aid bill for Ukraine . Due to the missed deadline, some lawmakers said they might block further funding.
A congressional aide anonymously told the agency that the long-awaited report arrived on Monday and they had not yet had a chance to review it.
Weeks after the deadline passed without the report being submitted, some members of Congress said they were disappointed and would consider blocking further funding for the Ukraine project.
In a statement sent to Reuters in late August about the report, Senator Jim Risch, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he supported aid to Ukraine but did not do so blindly.
“From the earliest days of Putin’s war with Ukraine, we have asked the Biden-Harris administration to develop a strategy for how the United States and our allies can help Ukraine win the war. When they failed to respond to our requests, we legislated to send a strategy to Congress, but the deadline passed without a response. President Biden and Vice President Harris owe a strategy not just to us, but to the American people, and their failure to do so suggests they don’t have one, or are afraid to share one,” Risch said at the time.
Whether coincidence or not, the preparation and delivery of the aforementioned report coincided with a visit to the United States by a group of Ukrainian officials led by Zelenskyy, who announced that Biden and his likely successors, Harris and Trump, would be familiarized with a certain "plan for Ukraine's victory ," the contents of which also raise questions.
It is also unclear how the two documents are related – the one prepared in Washington and the one prepared in Kyiv – and whether the second is simply a summary of the first.
Against this backdrop, pressure from pro-Ukrainian lobbyists on the White House has increased with the aim of “freeing Kyiv’s hands” in terms of American missile strikes on the Russian rear.
