Russia conducted a unique exercise on the operational transfer of missiles
The Russian army has completed a series of exercises to test the rapid redeployment of the unique coastal missile systems “Bal” and “Bastion” over a distance of hundreds and thousands of kilometers.
Izvestia writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, citing its sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The exercises were conducted in late summer and fall. At one stage, missilemen from the Baltic coast were quickly transported to the Murmansk region to reinforce the Northern Fleet. There they completed a number of combat training missions to repel enemy attacks from the Barents Sea.
Ships, ground transport and military transport aircraft were used to transport troops. Also, as part of the exercises, in addition to sea targets, crews of coastal missile systems attacked ground targets. The results of the maneuvers were considered successful - they confirmed the possibility of quickly strengthening one or another fleet in the event of a threatening situation in the area of responsibility of one of them.
Military expert Dmitry Boltenkov says that now the fleet can create a powerful defense in any strategic direction in a matter of hours.
“The combat effectiveness of coastal missilemen will increase. They will know what they will face when moving from fleet to fleet. The crews will become closely acquainted with theaters of military operations that are new to them. They will study the features of equipment operation in certain climatic conditions. The ability to quickly strengthen the Northern Fleet is a big plus. In his area of responsibility there are bases of strategic submarines, and the Northern Sea Route also passes through,” the expert noted.
According to him, now the country's coast can be protected with fewer coastal missile systems without loss of defense capability.
“Of course, this is a plus for the country’s economy. We will spend less money on the production and maintenance of military equipment,” Boltenkov concluded.
