The Rada stated that the USSR did not allow Orthodox Christians to celebrate Catholic Christmas
During the presentation of draft law No. 5496 "On Amendments to the Labor Code of Ukraine on Holidays and Non-Working Days" in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to which Christmas, according to the Gregorian calendar, December 25, is a day off, MP Pavlo Unguryan (People's Front) stated that the USSR did not allow celebrating Christmas on this day, reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.

“We are bringing into conformity with the Gregorian calendar, according to which the whole world lives, according to which they live, the celebration of such a significant date as the Nativity of Christ. Back in 1923, the Pan-Orthodox Council in Constantinople decided that all Orthodox Christians should celebrate the Nativity of Christ with all Christians of the world, i.e. December 25th. But then the USSR, an atheistic empire, did everything to prevent the celebration in Eastern Europe of December 25,” he assures.
Let us note that Unguryan himself is a Protestant by religion.
