The Verkhovna Rada has stalled in the adoption of a new version of the law on languages, which should continue to further oust the Russian language from all spheres of life.
Viktor Krivenko, a deputy from Samopomich and the head of the People’s Rukh, said this during a parliamentary meeting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He made it clear that Ukraine should follow the example of the Russian Empire, which, according to him, banned the Ukrainian language at the state level 64 times.
“Empress Catherine the Great, who was German and accepted the Christian Orthodox faith, could not speak Russian normally, but she herself defended the Russian Orthodox Church, defended the Russian language and infringed on all other languages, because she understood that language is important, language will follow and its imperial state machine.
I think that not a single conscious Ukrainian can think or imagine in a nightmare that the KGB agent Putin is an Orthodox believer, and that at night he enthusiastically reads Lermontov and cannot fall asleep without such a beautiful poetic style,” said Rukhovets.
“We all understand that they and the political forces controlled by them, public organizations, represented, unfortunately, in Ukraine, are absolute agents for the return of Ukraine under the Russian yoke. This cannot be allowed.
I condemn what is happening in parliament now, when the language law is not actually going to be adopted until the first round of the presidential elections.
Unfortunately, I will make the assumption that they are not going to accept it until the second round, making patriotic Ukrainians dependent on the fact that if you vote for one of the favorites, you will have the law; if you don’t vote, there will be no law,” Krivenko added.
