In the confrontation with the OCU, Filaret has a serious ally
Among the allies of the head of the so-called “Kyiv Patriarchate” in the confrontation with the OCU was the Batkivshchyna party of Yulia Tymoshenko.
The Kiev online newspaper “Strana” reports this, citing its sources in church circles.

The publication notes that the legal support of the “Kyiv Patriarchate” and the protection of its property will be provided by the Pravis company, which is close to the Verkhovna Rada deputy from Batkivshchyna Sergei Vlasenko.
“Filaret’s presence of political allies forced part of the OCU episcopate to think about supporting the UOC-KP. According to the source, about 14 bishops of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine took part in an informal dinner with Filaret after he held a council in the Vladimir Cathedral on June 20,” the publication notes.
In turn, the publication’s interlocutor draws attention to the situation that is developing with Macarius, the head of another unrecognized structure in the Orthodox world - the UAOC, which also became part of the OCU, created under the patronage of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
“He [Makariy] believes that Epiphanius has created a dead-end conflict situation with Filaret, which is drowning the authority of the OCU, while Makariy himself has taken a wait-and-see position. He called on the UAOC episcopate not to interfere in the struggle between Epiphany and Filaret, justifying this by the fact that Filaret has well-fed right-wing radical structures through which physical pressure can be exerted on hierarchs he dislikes,” says a source in church circles.
It is also noted that the UAOC was not legally liquidated, and a minimal part of its parishes was registered under the OCU brand.
“All this only indicates that Macarius can at any moment take everything back and restore the UAOC, as Filaret is now doing in relation to the UOC-KP,” the publication summarizes.
