Ukrainian spy from Torpedo exposed in Moscow
The Moscow City Court sentenced former Ukrainian football player Vasily Vasilenko to 12 years in a maximum security colony for espionage.
The Moscow City Court press service reported this, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The consideration of the criminal case by a panel of three judges took place behind closed doors, since the materials of the case were classified as “Secret”.
The prosecution asked for 16 years in prison for Vasilenko. According to investigators, he was arrested in Moscow in October 2019 for smuggling military equipment. This spring, the FSB investigation reclassified the charge as espionage.
Vasilenko was born in 1967. In the 1990s, he played as a defender in the Ukrainian football teams Tavria (Novotroitskoye), Torpedo (Melitopol) and Druzhba (Berdyansk).
