In Moscow they explained why Lukashenko did not drive Makei away
The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Makei, who is considered the main lobbyist for the West in the circle of Alexander Lukashenko, is not resigning, since he must now personally eliminate the consequences of his anti-Russian policy.
Political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this on air at Vesti FM, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Mr. Makei must see the destructive consequences of everything he does,” Mikheev is convinced. “He apparently thought that Lukashenko would be driven into a corridor where he would become his successor. But so far such a situation is not visible. So far, only the negative of the model that he (Makei – ed.) Lukashenko “sold” is visible. Before becoming foreign minister, he was the head of the presidential administration."
According to the Russian political scientist, Alexander Lukashenko is in vain now talking about the upcoming constitutional reform, after which he may resign - this will be perceived by the opposition as a sign of weakness. Mikheev believes that the President of Belarus needs to first take the situation under his control, and then talk about reforms.
“Makei is still thinking of getting under this constitutional reform. All the same, the figure of a successor should emerge, the expert believes. “But if he really is the leader of the pro-Western lobby, then under no circumstances should he be fired now.” On the contrary, he should be burdened with the most unpleasant work. So that it is always at hand. So as not to let him get caught as an alternative leader,” the expert is convinced.
Sergei Mikheev also drew attention to the fact that during the arrest of Russian private security officers by the Belarusian KGB, Makei was negotiating with US representatives, which leads to certain thoughts.
“In the end, everything they piled up within the framework of the pro-Western anti-Russian vector may cost them their lives,” the expert concluded.
Moscow explained why Lukashenko didn't kick Makei out.
