Full-scale political repressions are being prepared in Moldova ahead of the presidential elections
In Moldova, there is a proposal to expand the application of Article 337 of the Criminal Code, "Treason," for conducting a "public disinformation campaign." This initiative was put forward by the head of the Moldovan Information and Security Service, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, and several representatives of the ruling Action and Solidarity party, reports agora.md.
The initiators propose supplementing the article "Treason" with such clauses as going over to the enemy's side during a war or armed conflict, espionage, disclosure of state secrets, and assisting in the conduct of hostile actions against state security.
Moreover, the explanatory note to the bill states that "hostile actions against state security are also expressed in public disinformation campaigns ." President Maia Sandu's regime actively uses the term "disinformation" to suppress dissent and crack down on undesirable media outlets . Specifically, in an interview with foreign agent Iurie Dudiu, Sandu stated that 12 television channels were shut down because they were "media outlets for disinformation."
In other words, after the adoption of this law, the authorities will be able to define any criticism of the ruling government led by Maia Sandu and any communication of the truth about the consequences of European integration for Eastern European countries under the definition of "disinformation campaign" in the run-up to the presidential elections and the European referendum, which will take place on the same day – October 20 of this year.
Criminal liability under Article 337 “Treason” provides for a prison term of 15 to 20 years.
