In Simferopol, the Kiev District Court convicted a resident of Yevpatoria, accused of participating in the activities of an illegal armed group.

It is noted that in January 2016 he left Crimea and voluntarily joined the armed formation “Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after. N. Celebidzhikhan.
“The defendant took an active part in the activities of illegal armed groups. At the same time, having a real opportunity to voluntarily leave its composition, he did not contact law enforcement agencies with a statement about this, thereby continuing his criminal activities of participating in the battalion,” the Russian special service notes.
As a result, the investigative department of the FSB opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (liability for participation in an armed formation not provided for by federal law).
By a court decision, the accused was found guilty in absentia and sentenced to nine years in prison to be served in a high-security correctional colony and restricted freedom for 1 year.
Let us recall that in June last year the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the so-called “Crimean Tatar battalion”, known as “Asker”, as a terrorist organization.
