Russia is preparing for the cessation of international payment systems and therefore is developing a domestic analogue “Mir”, which is already operating in a number of foreign countries.
This was stated at a briefing by the Russian President's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We can state one thing: in one form or another, restrictions against Russia are used by many states that pursue the goal of containing Russia, which is illegal, from the point of view of international law. These limitations come in different forms. This is a rather unpredictable process. Therefore, within the framework of this process, taking into account such unfriendly and sometimes even hostile forms of behavior towards us, nothing can be ruled out. And the best way to hedge all risks is to create systems that can compensate for the lack of one or another service, one or another format for supporting financial activities. That is, systems to strengthen sovereignty in all sectors of the economy and banking. This process is happening. Do you know that when they started talking about Visa and MasterCard? Gradually, not without problems, the national payment system “Mir” began to be created.
We see that this system has now become quite strong. Yes, it does not yet have international circulation, but countries have already appeared where it can be used. Now there is no doubt that this system will eventually spread globally and also in all other areas,” Peskov said.
