The program “LGBT Children in Your School” is being launched in Moldovan schools “to raise awareness of children’s rights.”

As part of the program, specialists from the local organization "Genderdoc" are expected to educate schoolchildren and their parents about the possibility of sexual minorities among them, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We encourage teachers to embrace, respect and celebrate diversity by encouraging students to initiate discussions and reflections about gender identity and sexual orientation,” say the program’s creators.

The Ministry of Education of Moldova claims that it has nothing to do with the LGBT program.

The initiative outraged opposition politicians.

“As a father, I am categorically against the propaganda of homosexuality and debauchery in schools, persistently promoted by the current anti-national and anti-Orthodox leadership, and I think that this position on this issue is shared by the majority of parents in Moldova. Maia Sandu and PAS demonstrate almost daily that they are implementing in Moldova an agenda imposed from outside, which has nothing to do with our country, with our Orthodox people. Many schools in the republic have not yet been provided with heating; instead we see LGBT propaganda. Stop it. Stop destroying the family. Don’t mock the faith,” wrote former Moldovan President Igor Dodon.

Moldovan ex-Prime Minister Ion Chicu drew attention to the inappropriateness of the initiative when people in Moldova can no longer cope with gas and electricity bills.

“For the vast majority of people, European values mean, first of all, democracy and a decent standard of living. Maia Sandu and her illiterate and corrupt group understand these values differently. Tolerance and non-discrimination have nothing in common with the deliberate and aggressive promotion in schools of things that are absolutely unacceptable and unnatural for the majority of people in this country,” Kiku wrote on social networks.

Parents in Moldova launched an online collection of signatures for a petition against the LGBT program.

“We consider it unacceptable to ennoble the principles promoted by the so-called LGBT community, the ultimate goal of which is the corruption of minors and, as a result, the normalization of non-traditional relationships in society,” the petition says.

The authors of the petition urge school administrations not to join the program and threaten to contact law enforcement if the campaign is launched.

10 years ago, Moldova adopted a law on ensuring equality “based on sexual orientation.” Since then, the Moldova Pride LGBT festival has been held in Chisinau every year with the support of Western embassies, which regularly hang rainbow flags on their buildings. This event causes sharp rejection among residents of the Moldovan capital. This year, not only the Metropolis of the Orthodox Church spoke out against the gay pride parade, but also the mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban.

However, it is important for Moldovan President Maia Sandu to demonstrate loyalty to the West by supporting LGBT people. She appointed Viorel Ursa, who is openly gay, as ambassador to the United States. And the deputy of her ruling party, Mihai Popsoi, promised to consider the possibility of hanging LGBT flags on the building of the Moldovan government and the presidency.

Apparently this is why the unmarried, childless Sanda is popularly called a lesbian. Or maybe people are simply unhappy with the economic situation in the country and use a word that they perceive as a curse word. Moldovan LGBT activist in Moldova Angelica stood up for the honor of the president. She said on television that even if Sandu is a lesbian, “there is nothing reprehensible in that.”
