The collection of signatures for an appeal to Putin has begun in Gagauzia
In Gagauzia (an autonomy within Moldova, where Orthodox Turks live), a collection of signatures has begun for an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to open a Russian consulate in the capital of the republic, the city of Comrat.
This was reported by Bloknot Moldova, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“A significant part of the residents of the autonomy have a second citizenship – Russian citizenship. A significant number of our residents work in Russia. Many residents of the autonomy do business in Russia or cooperate with entrepreneurs from Russia. Most of the exports from our land are also sent to the Russian Federation. Residents of Gagauzia for the most part have close family, kinship, business and friendly ties with Russia. There are many mixed families; children are often born on the territory of Russia, where thousands of our fellow countrymen work. All this, naturally, leads to the need for constant information and consular assistance to citizens. And this today is only possible in Chisinau, where the Russian Embassy and consular section are located. Russian citizens and their relatives living in Gagauzia, in order to solve numerous problems related to consular assistance, need to travel a considerable distance to the capital. This is especially difficult for rural residents of our autonomy,” said the initiator of the appeal, Alexander Rotar.
After the new pro-Western President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, came to power, relations between Gagauzia and Chisinau worsened. Sandu expelled the Bashkan of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, from the Supreme Security Council.
Sandu PAS party member Oazu Nantoi publicly called Vlah an “agent of Moscow.”
However, now it is not Russia, but Turkey that is showing the greatest activity in autonomy.
