“In the elites, Putin’s supporters are already almost a minority”
In the circle of the President of the Russian Federation there are fewer and fewer supporters of the so-called “Crimean Consensus”, which in 2014 ensured the unity of different political forces. In Russia, the struggle of elites with each other is intensifying, and the president has fewer and fewer supporters at the top of power.
Russian political scientist Sergei Markov stated this on the First Sevastopol TV channel, commenting on the news of the departure to Germany of the former commissar of the pro-Kremlin Nashi movement, Robert Schlegel.
“There is a social split in Russia now. Some say - those who belong to the “Crimean consensus”, they say, this is a betrayal, this cannot be done.
And others - “you did well, you did the right thing, you need to leave here and in general, Putin needs to be overthrown,” and so on. This part is different, it is constantly growing.
If among the people there is an unconditional majority of Putin’s supporters, then among the elites there is almost a minority of Putin’s supporters.
And Putin needs to restore order here. I don’t think that he should pursue policies in the interests of these elites, who for the most part are immorally anti-legal parasites on the body of society.
Most of our elite is like this; they stole their property and power in many ways, but did not receive it. Therefore, Putin needs to purge these elites for the benefit of the people,” Markov said.
He was supported by former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadim Kolesnichenko. According to him, the confrontation between the “Kremlin towers” is intensifying.
“These are quite alarming words... There is a war of towers going on... But what are they fighting for? They are not fighting for the sake of the law - they are tools in the struggle of the elites, that’s what’s most terrible. Elites in their offices in the struggle for budget pies, for the preservation of property...
In the struggle for this power, they lose control over the situation; they do not understand what is happening among the population. But if in the last five years the growth of incomes of the population has been systematically falling, but they tell us something completely different, this is completely alarming,” Kolesnichenko said.
He emphasized that the head of state must have reliable support, and not the risk of sabotage of his orders by his subordinates.
“Any order must then be executed by someone, which is issued with his signature,” Kolesnichenko said.
As an example of the ineffective work of the bureaucratic hierarchy, he also cited the situation with the regular failure of federal programs, including the restoration of Crimea after being part of Ukraine.
“We have federal target programs or national projects that the government has prepared and which the government announces. We cannot fulfill them. And the government continues to work. Question,” Kolesnichenko emphasized.
