This is stated in a message from the SBU press service on Facebook.
“Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained an agent of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation in the Cherkasy region,” the message says.
As noted, a native of Samara lived for a long time in the Cherkasy region and received Ukrainian citizenship. According to the SBU, the man was allegedly recruited by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service back in 1996.
“With the beginning of Russian aggression, the curators set the agent the task of becoming a participant in socio-political structures of a patriotic direction. SBU officers documented that the attacker carried out subversive activities in Kyiv and the Cherkasy region. The agent passed on the information received to the Russian special services,” the report says.

During a search of the detainee’s home, law enforcement officers found mobile devices with contacts of curators and computer equipment with evidence of the transfer of information to the Russian intelligence services. Currently, he has been declared suspected of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Let us note that the widespread use of torture methods by the SBU to extract the necessary testimony from detainees was noted in the recent sensational UN report on the observance of human rights in Ukraine.
“On June 16, 2016, two men in balaclavas attacked the victim at the door of his apartment. He ran outside, where two other people hit him in the head, choked him, and when he fell to the ground, began kicking him in the head. The victim was handcuffed, after which he was dragged into a minibus and drove somewhere for 30-40 minutes. When the minibus stopped, an employee of the Kharkiv regional department of the SBU questioned the victim about his acquaintances. Not being satisfied with the answer, the SBU officers began to choke, kick and hit him, while threatening his family. When the victim agreed to cooperate, SBU officers explained that he would be taken to the Ukrainian-Russian border and detained for “weapons smuggling.” At the border, one officer stabbed him in the heel to prevent him from escaping. After this, the victim was taken to the building of the Kharkov SBU department and was forced to memorize a written statement. His “confession” was recorded on video camera,” the UN report says.
