In 2013, each Ukrainian invested $280 in the Russian economy
Kyiv, June 12 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – Due to the inefficient use of fuel and energy resources, the Ukrainian economy annually loses 15 billion US dollars. This opinion was expressed at the conference “Energy Security of Ukraine: Challenges of the Geopolitical Crisis” by the energy program coordinator of the National Environmental Center of Ukraine Artur Denisenko.

“Last year, every resident of Ukraine, from a baby to a pensioner, invested $280 in Russia because of this. This money became an investment in the economy of the aggressor country - Russia, although it could have been invested in the economy of Ukraine. Today we must move from financing other countries to investing money in the domestic market,” says the expert.
Denisenko believes that the Ukrainian authorities will have to take more and more unpopular measures – the so-called. liberalization of gas and electricity prices.
The next step should be targeted assistance for the most vulnerable segments of the population. It is also necessary to provide metering devices for all consumers of gas, heat and water. It is also necessary to immediately begin to carry out energy saving measures in public utilities and educational institutions.
“If we don’t start doing this right now, we will face the next heating season with cold, unheated schools and kindergartens,” the expert warns.
