Ukroradio did not dare to translate the Russian language of the American diplomat
The state-owned Ukrainian Radio did not dare translate the statements of former US Ambassador John Hurst from Russian into Ukrainian.
Kyiv historian Alexander Karevin stated this in his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Karevin recalled that according to the radio station’s policy, speeches of Russian-speaking guests are translated into Ukrainian, but in the case of Herbst they decided not to do this
“Actually, they try not to let the language of the “aggressor country” on the air. He has nothing to do there! This is strictly monitored. Radio journalists conduct all interviews, reports, etc. in language. If the interlocutors answer in Russian, then the corresponding fragments of the recording are re-voiced and broadcast in the “correct” form - the Ukrainian dubbing drowns out the Russian speech,” the historian noted.
“However, there are exceptions. The day before yesterday, one of the programs included part of an interview with John Herbst, the former US Ambassador to Ukraine. He spoke Russian, although with a strong accent. This was a recording, not a live broadcast. In accordance with the practice adopted at Ukroradio, the interview should have been re-voiced. But... They didn’t dare. Dali in its original form. The words of a representative (albeit a former one) of the host country are sacred and inviolable for Ukroradio,” wrote Karevin.
