“We are closely monitoring developments as the threat is real. The situation in the region has not yet returned to normal. Fierce fighting is taking place in Ukraine, and the distance to hostilities is small. We must always be ready to respond if necessary,” said Defense Minister Valery Troenko.
He believes that Moldova needs to strengthen its partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance, since “the annexation of part of the territory could happen at any time.”
“NATO has become a guarantor of stability and protection of the interests of small states. There is no other force capable of resisting Russia,” said the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova, quoted by publika.md.
Troenko is convinced that security forces will be able to prevent attempts to prevent Moldova from signing an association agreement with the EU.
“There is a certain danger. The same creation of people's squads in Gagauzia (the head of the Gagauz autonomy, Mikhail Formuzal, previously ordered the creation of people's squads in populated areas to ensure public order - editor's note). In fact, they will provide services to intelligence agencies. The security agencies of Moldova must fulfill their duty and act according to the law, and then these problems will disappear,” he said.
