Ukrainian military airfields are preparing to adapt to NATO standards

As indicated, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are completing the development of a regulatory framework for adapting the network of military airfields to Alliance standards. As reported by the engineering and airfield logistics service of the Species Command, its specialists have already developed a number of changes to the Rules for determining the suitability for operation of airfields and runways of the state aviation of Ukraine.

“The changes were developed based on the generalized international practice of airfield certification and the provisions of the current Air Code of Ukraine. In addition, the document takes into account the results of research on ensuring the safety of aircraft flights, as well as regulatory documents, standards and practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization,” said Vitaly Zastava, head of the Logistics Inspectorate of the Armed Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It is reported that the rules contain requirements for the development of airfields and heliports, as well as takeoff and landing sites, in order to ensure flight safety at certain operating minimums. The new document is expected to come into force before the end of the year.

In parallel with this, the Department for Regulation of State Aviation of Ukraine is also working on changes to the Instructions for the Operation of Airfields. Taken together, this will make it possible to begin the process of gradual adaptation of the airfield network to NATO standards.
