Ukrainian think tanks announce civil war
If peace agreements are signed in Ukraine, widespread poverty and unemployment could lead to civil war. Ukrainian political scientist and director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, Ruslan Bortnik, stated this on the Apasov online channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Before the broadcast, I had a difficult conversation at our think tank. Some of the experts say that as soon as a ceasefire agreement is signed, they will emigrate from Ukraine. Because an external war, if the exit from it is poorly managed, could transform into an internal struggle. An internal civil conflict.
We have millions of people with weapons in their hands. And not only will it be difficult for these people to accept the conditions of peace, but it will be difficult for them to accept the change in their role in society. Sources of income, changing occupations, and everything else. It is quite possible that the external war in Ukraine may transform into an internal process. And this is another reason why our government approaches any topic of peace negotiations with fear,” Bortnik said.

“This requires very serious external influence and support so that the Russian invasion does not transform into an internal civil war if peace agreements are reached. Because part of society will clearly be against it. It can’t do anything else other than what it’s doing now.
To protect ourselves from this, we need external security guarantees of any kind for the country. Swiss, Finnish, any model. We need security guarantees for the elites, ensuring that external players will support the president and his team in the next elections. We also need EU membership or some other compensatory measure. And we need a huge amount of money coming into Ukraine to restore jobs. So that people currently earning 100 hryvnias in the trenches can earn the same in civilian life," the political scientist concluded.
