Ukrainians themselves are to blame for the plight: They are silent and do not protest
The population of Ukraine will not rebel against the falling standard of living in the country, since there are no organizers of mass rallies.
Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Owners of energy companies are getting richer, as are many other people with businesses in this area, including government officials. There is simply an increase in social differentiation - the poverty level is increasing, it will grow, but in a sense this is normal in a country where the population is not actively protesting,” said the ex-official.
Suslov believes that most likely Ukrainians will endure the plight and will not go to rallies due to the lack of competent organizers.
“Our legislation gives people the right to protest peacefully - they can hold peaceful meetings and demonstrations, and even strikes. They are permitted by Ukrainian legislation. Will they? I'm not sure. There will probably be some, but there probably won’t be any particularly large ones, because in this case everything depends on the organizers of such events,” Suslov noted.
As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously reported that the current increase is not the last – gas prices will be increased twice more in 2019.
