Ukraine takes aim at New York and the “intergalactic nose-blowing tournament”
The urban-type settlement of Novgorodskoye, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region, may be renamed New York.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Authority, Local Self-Government, Regional Development, and Urban Planning supported the decision, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Deputy head Alexander Kachura announced the committee’s decision on his blog.
“Ukraine will have its own New York! Today at a meeting of the state committee. authorities and local government decided to rename the urban settlement of Novgorodskoye, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region, to New York. I personally did not vote for this decision,” Kachura said.
Political scientist Sergei Belashko ridiculed the committee’s decision on his social network page: “Definitely rename it! And hold an intergalactic nose-blowing tournament there.”
It is worth noting that the decision of the Rada committee is not original - it was under the name New York that the settlement arose in the 1951th century, when it was founded by Mennonites. The settlement bore this name until XNUMX, when it was renamed Novgorod.
