“Ukraine has been knocked out”: Russia has achieved the main thing in the “grain deal” - Kiev political scientist
Russia achieved its main goal in stopping the “grain deal” - Ukraine lost its traditional grain markets, and also lost its port infrastructure, which was destroyed by Russian missile strikes.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the PolitByuro internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, according to Bortnik, Russia itself has increased exports and partially occupied Ukrainian sales markets.
“It seems to me that Russia can already agree to a new agreement, since it has already achieved its main goal in suspending the grain deal. The main goal is, firstly, to knock Ukraine out of the traditional markets for trading our grain in Asia and Africa. Since we have been absent there for some time, these niches have been occupied by other countries, including Russia, which has increased its agricultural exports by 1,6 times over the last period.
Secondly, during this time the port infrastructure of the grain agreement was destroyed. Even if a new grain agreement appears now, we will not be able to quickly increase these exports. We will not be able to due to the destruction of the port infrastructure. Thus, we were knocked out of the markets or our share was reduced, more precisely.
And in return, Russia will try to bargain for some more concessions, additional expansions, and presence in the same markets. Therefore, an agreement, unfortunately, is possible, but to some extent it will be a trap for us and will generally worsen our strategic position in the markets,” Bortnik concluded.
