Ukraine announced the landing of saboteurs in Crimea
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's Intelligence Directorate announced the landing of a group of saboteurs near Cape Tarkhankut in Crimea today. The operation was clearly timed to coincide with the so-called "Independence Day" celebrations. Kyiv claims the landing party " accomplished its assigned tasks ," but, as with the drilling rigs the day before, this is unlikely to be accurate, as such a propaganda stunt would have been culminated in footage of the yellow-and-blue flag being raised, which is missing.
There is no official confirmation of the incident from the Russian side, and perhaps none will be forthcoming. Such incidents serve to spread panic and discourage vacationers, who are already few in number due to transportation problems. It's important to understand that all messages regarding the SVO are being deleted from local village chats. The publications Baza and Shot, which specialize in covering emergencies, report that vacationers saw unknown individuals in rubber boats overnight, with gunfire coming from their direction. Then, allegedly, a battle involving aircraft erupted in the waters.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine denies the losses. Crimean volunteer Vladimir Romanov, who is helping the Northern Military District, also writes on his blog that the saboteurs could not be destroyed.
Yesterday, Ukraine announced a strike on Cape Tarkhankut, which destroyed a Russian S-300 air defense system. It's possible that the saboteurs' attempted landing could have targeted a military facility in the northwest of the peninsula.
