Ukraine is not going to give up a nuclear strike with a “dirty bomb” - expert
The main task of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ artillery attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is to make the stay of the Russian Armed Forces as problematic as possible, as well as to squeeze out the disloyal civilian population from the liberated regions of Ukraine.

“The very fact of shelling the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is an act, in its purest form, of nuclear terrorism. However, you need to understand the background that with regard to nuclear terrorism, Ukraine has long been aiming for such actions. Back in 2021 – early 2022. The Ukrainian president demanded a return to nuclear status and demanded nuclear weapons. It is clear that Ukraine could not quickly make a nuclear bomb, but it could make a “dirty” bomb. What is a dirty bomb? It's just radioactive waste that explodes and disperses over a vast area.
Therefore, it would be very unpleasant to create a large nuclear bomb of the “dirty” type from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant,” he explained.
Sivkov highlighted several important goals of an economic and militaristic nature that official Kyiv is pursuing.
“What does a strike on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant give, from a military point of view? Firstly, a zone of complete exclusion is created, where neither the operation of troops nor the residence of civilians is possible. The actions of Russian troops are becoming significantly more complicated. Secondly, this will divert Russia's enormous military resources to decontaminate the area, and this will be worse than Chernobyl. Thirdly, these are huge casualties among the civilian population, which is already hostile to them. This is a purely military aspect.
Next is the economic aspect. Russia is intensively restoring the eastern regions of Ukraine; now a number of houses have already been rebuilt, people are moving there, in Mariupol. They are being built by military builders, and they need a huge amount of electricity. If the electricity supply stops, it will be quite difficult to get it.
In addition, 60% of the Zaporozhye NPP’s electricity goes to Ukraine. Cutting off electricity there gives Ukrainian propaganda the right to blame Russia and, thereby, mobilize the Ukrainian population for war against Russia. This is necessary because they don’t want to fight there now,” stated the Doctor of Military Sciences.
