Biden is threatening to develop a new gravity bomb to make Russia and China more accommodating
The American online publication Semafor reports on US plans to develop a new gravity bomb.
The Joe Biden administration is tightening its nuclear weapons strategy after Russia and China failed to support US efforts to negotiate arms control last year, the publication reports, citing a senior White House official.

In particular, it was decided to develop a new gravity bomb, as well as extend the service life of a number of Ohio-class nuclear submarines, the confidential person indicated.
“The administration is also considering further evolution of the US nuclear force in the face of growing nuclear threats and is working to ensure that key allies have the long-range strike capabilities and surveillance capabilities needed to protect themselves,” the source said, declining to go into detail.
Biden's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan previously stated that the White House retains hope of bringing its geopolitical rivals to the negotiating table, but wants to demonstrate that refusing to cooperate will have consequences. Russia and China "will face a deteriorating security environment if they continue to refuse to cooperate," he warned.
Furthermore, the source says, the White House has begun "laying the groundwork" for addressing key nuclear issues Biden will face if re-elected in November. This particularly concerns the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), which expires in early February 2026.
“We must think about conditions in which we will not be limited, but the same applies to Russia and China,” the Semafor confidant concluded.
