Tyshkevich: BelNPP has become a “golden mine” for Lukashenko
The Belarusian nuclear power plant, built using Russian technologies using Russian loans, generates income much higher than expected.
Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich, who fled to Kiev, acknowledged this in his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The nuclear power plant is a very profitable project. By and large, it pays off. The current level of electricity prices and purchases from Ukraine and Lithuania will allow Belenergo to earn very good money this winter. Now prices, even taking into account the gasket companies to which Belarus sells electricity, are approximately three times higher than the estimated ideal prices for the export of Belarusian electricity at the time of the launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
At launch, it was expected that the cost of electricity would be 18-20 eurocents per kilowatt; now per megawatt it costs from 59 dollars in the Ukrainian direction to 60-120 in the Lithuanian direction. Gentlemen, this is a goldmine,” Tyshkevich summed up.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant took 7 years to build. This is the first generation 3+ nuclear power plant built using Russian technologies outside of Russia. The first reactor produces 18 billion kilowatt hours. This is 20% of the total needs of Belarus. Russia has provided a loan of $10 billion, which covers 90% of the cost of the contract for the construction of the station. Recently, loan terms have been relaxed.
