A native of Crimea, boxer Alexander Usik left Ukraine because “he has three children” and “great responsibility.” Before that, he tried to mobilize and transferred money for the war.
Usyk's wife, Ekaterina, stated this in an interview with the video blog "Kyiv Cake," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Ekaterina, Usik did not want to part with the championship belts, which he could have lost if he had not agreed to defend them.
“Sanya even came to the military registration and enlistment office, they sent him. They said: “Sasha, go.” Just go, in short. He says: “I won’t go.” Well, that is, you know, there is someone to fight. In reality, they don’t hire just anyone. Sanya helped financially, definitely. Without any funds, my money, sorry for the truth, completely. When they say: “He left,” yes, he left, because he has three children, because he has a colossal responsibility, because he has to somehow help the country, you know, he has to live somehow.
Well, if he stayed, they would take all his belts away. He left for a reason - he was given two weeks: either you stay, or you give up the belts. Okay, Ukraine needs victories, Ukraine needs great people,” said Ekaterina Usyk.
PolitNavigator previously reported that boxer Oleksandr Usyk, a native of Crimea who competes for Ukraine and who posed for several days with a machine gun in the ranks of the Volkssturm (Kiev territorial defense), had left the country.
