Tikhanovskaya rolled out to Merkel a list of expenses for the fight against Lukashenko’s regime
The German Chancellor met today with former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who fled to Lithuania and proclaimed herself a national leader. The meeting lasted 45 minutes.
This was reported by Tikhanovskaya's Telegram channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Tikhanovskaya said that the Belarusian people expect investment support, assistance to independent media and civil organizations to overcome the consequences of the crisis.
The oppositionist presented Angela Merkel with an umbrella in the colors of the nationalist Belarusian flag and the book “Country of Belarus” in German translation.
The previous morning, Tikhanovskaya held a press briefing for German and international media. She said that she is not sure that “Putin will not repeat the scenario of 2014.”
“I can’t be sure of anything in this case. However, I encourage dialogue. This is the 21st century, we are civilized people - there is no need for war and blood. It's much easier to sit down and talk. The protest is not controlled from abroad,” assures the Lithuanian doll.
She spoke evasively about the political fate of Lukashenko himself.
“I cannot forgive him as a person. However, as a national leader, I must make a decision that will affect the history of the country. There are different opinions on this matter. Many people want him to be tried. But I think that the majority will just let him go if he leaves us alone,” Tikhanovskaya said.

Today, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov commented on Tikhanovskaya’s persistent desire to find some kind of mediators for negotiations between the opposition and the authorities.
“The question here is whether the legitimate leadership of Belarus needs any mediators or not. I don’t know that the leadership of Belarus was looking for any mediators,” Peskov said.
