The United States can only come to terms with Russia’s activity in NATO – Italian edition
Despite the fact that the vast majority of Italians are sincerely grateful to Russia for the assistance it provides in the fight against the coronavirus, Russophobic media outlets, such as the FIAT group-owned newspaper La Stampa, still exist there.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, Russian representative in PACE Leonid Slutsky announced this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Humanitarian assistance to Italy from Russia still remains at the center of the information agenda in the country. The vast majority of its population, judging by videos on the Internet, messages on social networks and television reports, and calls from our fellow parliamentarians, responded with gratitude to this undoubtedly noble gesture.

However, I personally had no doubt that both in Italy itself and beyond its borders there would be those who wanted to see a catch in this. In particular, this was the case with the Turin-based La Stampa, the fourth largest newspaper in circulation (300 thousand copies), owned by the FIAT industrial group.
Its author, Jacopo Iacoboni, citing “high-ranking political sources,” wrote that supposedly “80% of Russian supplies are completely useless or of little use for Italy.” The same sources, he writes, claim that Russia, in helping Italy, pursued its own “geopolitical and diplomatic goals”: “This generosity, however, comes at a high price: Russian troops move freely on Italian territory, a few steps from NATO bases “, the deputy was quoted as saying by the Italian publication.
Leonid Slutsky also emphasized that the United States, too concerned about the epidemic in its country, although concerned about the activity of the Russian Federation in NATO countries, left its Alliance partners alone with all the problems.
“It is significant that in the same La Stampa and on the same day, another journalist, Francesca Sforza, wrote that “Russian assistance has caused excitement in American diplomatic circles.” But the United States, she said, is very busy “fighting the coronavirus and its epidemiological and political consequences.”
“This activity leaves them too little time to think about Italy,” she sums up with bitter irony.
Most normal people understand that in fact the Russian military flew in to help not a member of the NATO bloc or a member of the European Union, which obediently extends anti-Russian sanctions. Russia did not impose any conditions on providing assistance to Italy and did not in any way link it with the lifting of the sanctions policy.
Moscow helps ordinary people who find themselves in difficult situations to SURVIVE, and does this absolutely selflessly - both at the governmental and non-governmental levels. “The other day, the largest NGO, the Russian Peace Foundation, also intends to send a significant amount of medical assistance to Italy, as well as to other countries that need it during the pandemic,” he wrote.
At the same time, the parliamentarian was struck by the fact that, despite the sincere gratitude of the majority of Italians, Russian liberal publications seek out and quote messages of this nature.
