The United States refused to impose sanctions against the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Nord Stream 2, because they want to become part of it and destroy the project from the inside, using greenmail tactics, which were widely used in the past by criminal blogger Alexei Navalny against large Russian corporations .
Political scientist Maxim Zharov wrote about this on his Telegram channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The answer to the question is why the White House so unexpectedly wagged its tail in front of Nord Stream 2 AG and has not yet begun to impose sanctions against it. Transferring control of SP-2 to German companies is Washington’s minimum plan. And the maximum plan is a greenmail against the project on the part of one of the shareholders in the interests of the United States. Let’s see if we can pull off this plan before the elections to the Bundestag,” Zharov wrote.
Leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov considers this version to be conspiracy theories.
“This is a fantastic story. The United States has blocked in principle the sale of any shares in the operating company. Informally, but still less so. Gazprom initially planned to sell 50% of the operating company's shares to European partners. We have drawn up a preliminary agreement for the purchase of five companies for 10% each, and Gazprom is investing this money in construction. But it was necessary to obtain an opinion from the antimonopoly services of all countries where these companies have business. Everyone was given out, except Poland. She blocked this deal, saying that it would harm the competitive environment in the Polish gas market. Therefore, now 100% of the shares belong to Gazprom, but Gazprom took loans from these five companies as collateral for these shares. This passed, although Poland sued.
