Petro Poroshenko’s father, Alexey, was the director of the Bendery Machine-Building Plant and served time for embezzlement. The family of the Ukrainian president left Moldova in 92 with the outbreak of hostilities, moving to Vinnitsa.
A neighbor of the Poroshenko family from the city of Bender speaks about this in a video blog by Ukrainian investigative journalist Alexander Dubinsky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, in Vinnitsa, Poroshenko’s parents put together a business through fraud, and the current “chocolate king” himself learned the craft from his father.
“Poroshenko lived on this Gagarina Street 28 near the medical school. I lived on Kotovsky, and he is here. His father was the director of the BMZ - Bendery Machine-Building Plant. He was sent to prison for embezzlement. He was born in Bolgrad, where his wife is from, then moved to Bendery. They left here in 92. Dad had already been released; in 92 they left here during the war. We moved to Vinnitsa. Dad bought a small sugar factory there.
In short, he became the director of a sugar factory, it was state-owned. Well, in the winter they watered the walls, tiles, everything that could be watered, so that it would become moldy, so that they could buy it all on the cheap. Well, they bought it. And then dad taught Petya what to do next, and Petya slowly rose and became an oligarch,” said Poroshenko’s neighbor.
He says that the future Ukrainian politician in his youth did not communicate much with local kids and often received scoldings.
“I once met Vovchik, I said: “Vovchik, do you remember Petya well?” Well, he didn’t communicate with anyone, only with Seryozha Voloshin. And as soon as I left, he always received this... pi..dy and back home. He lived here, and I lived there, Kotovsky, 16,” added the neighbor.
