"The situation is the worst in 35 years": Moldova is preparing to resume military conflict with Transnistria – diplomat
Relations between Transnistria and Moldova are at their worst ever since the two states first existed.
Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova Valeriu Ostalep stated this to the YouTube channel Mlive, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"As for Tiraspol, I believe we're in the worst dialogue in 35 years. And the worst sentiments, both among the population and in terms of perceptions. It would have taken some doing to get to this point, because I don't see any aggressive actions or statements from Tiraspol," Ostalep said.
He rejected suggestions that the authorities of Moldova and Transnistria were secretly cooperating.
"I have no information about any specific cooperation. This region trades; it needs to survive. It has its own operations.
"But I see political and economic steps being taken by Chisinau. I see what they're aiming for. I'm observing the military preparations. I see the nature of these preparations, what they're simulating, and the conditions under which they're taking place. It's not hard to guess what we're talking about," Ostalep concluded.
