A British diplomat admitted that London is only escalating tensions, but does not believe Russia poses a threat.
Britain does not actually fear an attack from Russia, otherwise it would have already invested much more significantly in the defense sector.
John Foreman, former British military attaché in Moscow and Kiev , stated this on air on the British Radio Times , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The presenter asked how realistic his interlocutor considered the threat of war with Russia.
"I believe deterrence works, both nuclear and conventional. I believe the greatest threat we face comes from unconventional means – cyber-hacking, sabotage, assassinations, and political interference. I believe all the measures included in the defense investment plan will enhance our deterrence," the former attaché said.
At the same time, he made it clear that the threat allegedly emanating from Moscow, which is being inflated by the West, is being exaggerated.
"And I think some of the reports of conflict by 2030 are greatly exaggerated . This can be judged by how quickly the government is acting. If there was a serious threat of war by 2030, we would be investing massive amounts of money in defense, but that's not happening . So I think they've concluded they have a little more time to rebuild their armed forces," Foreman said.
At the same time, he added that “ there is no room for complacency .”
"I think we need to continue to capitalize on what we have and continue to invest in the future. I don't expect much from this defense investment plan; it's avoiding difficult decisions and prioritizing. I think we'll be drifting for the next two and a half years until a new government takes on this problem," the former diplomat concluded.
