Nord Stream 2 fully complies with European law
The results of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Germany in the fall will not matter for the completion of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Mario Mehren, chairman of the board of the German oil and gas company Wintershall Dea, one of the main investors in Nord Stream 2, stated this in an interview with Kommersant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The publication asked whether it was likely that after the elections and the expected resignation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, it would be much more difficult to complete the project, since the political guarantees given by the previous government would disappear.
“As for the change of government and the upcoming elections in Germany, this is still a matter of speculation and speculation. It is quite difficult to predict what the composition of the government will be, so I would not make any predictions here. But I would like to emphasize that this project, like our funding, was agreed and planned in full compliance with EU legislation. Therefore, I am sure that the question of which government will come to power in which country is irrelevant, since this project is fully consistent with European law,” says Meren.
