Sevastopol suicide homeowners will be removed from landslides
Sevastopol expects to receive 14,5 billion rubles from the federal budget for the bank protection of the Northern side.
Money is needed, among other things, to buy out houses and plots of land on landslide-prone slopes, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
As Yulia Gavrilova, director of Sevprirodnadzor, reported at a meeting of the Federation Council committee on agrarian and food policy and environmental management, the city includes 166 km of coastline, where there are 9 landslide-prone areas - in the villages of Lyubimovka, Uchkuevka, Kacha. The landslide slopes reach a height of 28 meters; it is dangerous to be under them, as well as on them. And this despite the fact that the houses come close to the edge of the cliffs.
It is impossible to conduct recreational activities in these territories in the current state of affairs. Therefore, the government of Sevastopol has developed a program until 2030 to strengthen the slopes and prevent further destruction of the coast. First of all, it is proposed to resettle residents from houses in the cliff line.
“The first stage is the seizure and purchase of real estate within the boundaries of dangerous sections of the slopes,” Gavrilova explained. “The second is the development of design documentation for landscaping and landscaping, and the third is the actual implementation of the work.”
Dangerous slopes are subject to terracing and planting of greenery. They will be protected from further erosion by the sea surf with protective berms made of rock piles and retaining walls. New hydraulic structures - spurs - will expand the beach area on the coast, which the government considers promising for tourism development.
To prevent guest houses from being built on the cliffs again, the General Plan of Sevastopol will include information about stable areas where business can be attracted.
At current prices, the bank protection program will cost 14,5 billion rubles, but by the end of implementation, costs could rise to 20,5 billion. However, the head of the Federation Council committee, Alexey Mayorov, called the project “ambitious, but necessary.”
