Russian Railways will reconstruct the Serbian line from Valjevo to Montenegro
The Russian Railways International company signed an agreement with the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure on the reconstruction of the Valjevo-Vrbnica – border with Montenegro railway road.
According to the document, the modernization of the railway will begin in the first quarter of 2022.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the document was signed by the General Director of Russian Railways-International Sergei Stolyarov and acting. Director of “Railway Infrastructure of Serbia” Nebojsa Surlan. Also taking part in the ceremony were the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mikhailovich, Deputy General Director of Russian Railways OJSC Sergei Pavlov and the Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.
“Serbia has signed an agreement on the modernization of the railway with the best company in the world - Russian Railways,” Mihajović commented on what was happening. “Our country has been cooperating with this company for several years on other important and complex projects in the field of the country’s railways.
One such project is the modernization of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, which is one of the most difficult sections in this part of Europe. We also hope that next year the company will begin construction of the modern control center that Serbia needs.”
However, the section “Valjevo-Vrbnica - border with Montenegro” itself (the so-called “Bar Road”, apparently so named because in the Yugoslav era it connected Valjevo with the seaside town of Bar in Montenegro) is not easy, its length – 209,4 kilometers, there are 250 bridges and about 260 tunnels on the site.
