Russians are ready to fight the US in Syria
More than half of Russians (66%) believe that Russia should support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad if the United States begins military action against this country.
This is evidenced by the latest VTsIOM survey data.
In general, 39% of Russians support Russia’s current policy in the Syrian conflict. According to one in five (22%), it is necessary to slow down actions or take a cautious position. The number of supporters of more active actions of our country in Syria has increased (from 14% to 17%) and, on the contrary, the share of those who believe that Russia should completely abandon participation in the conflict has decreased (9%).
Almost the same number of Russians give positive (33%) and negative (30%) assessments of the consequences of our country’s participation in the events in Syria. Negativists call the threat of an attack on Russia and the beginning of the third world war (9%), positivists say that the situation in the region is normalizing (11%), that Russia will strengthen its influence on the world stage (7%).
