Petro Poroshenko’s criticism of Russian initiatives to bring in a UN contingent to protect the OSCE mission documenting violations in the Donbass should not be taken seriously, since the Ukrainian president himself has not been able to become a guarantor of a single truce over the past years.

Alexey Kondratyev, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, stated this at a press conference today.

“Poroshenko is once again, contrary to Minsk-2, trying to completely devalue Russia’s participation in the peacekeeping process. At the same time, the truces declared by the Ukrainian side are not respected. He cannot be their guarantor,” Kondratiev said.

He believes that the renewed UN and OSCE should create unified legislation that would allow peacekeeping work.
