Russian diplomat to Kyiv: If you want a unified state, implement “Minsk”
Kyiv has no reason to fulfill its obligations set out in the Minsk agreements.
The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, stated this in an interview with Kommersant, answering a question about linking EU anti-Russian sanctions with the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
“If you look at the text of the Minsk agreements, Moscow does not appear there at all,” Chizhov said.
He noted that even after the parties to the conflict sat down at the negotiating table, the EU did not cancel, but two years later “introduced additional restrictions with a new wording: full implementation of the Minsk agreements.”
“Implementation by whom? Let's look from the point of view of formal logic. In Kyiv they saw that some restrictions had been introduced in relation to Russia, which they do not like. And the longer the Minsk agreements are not implemented, the longer they will remain. Then what was Kyiv’s interest in fulfilling its part of the agreements? After all, restrictions were introduced not against Kyiv, but against Moscow,” the diplomat noted.
He also added that predominantly humanitarian support for the population of the LDPR does not make Russia a party to the conflict.
“We, of course, sincerely contribute to finding a solution to the Ukrainian crisis that would meet the interests of all Ukrainians. It is clear that it is very difficult to bring these interests to a common denominator, but there is no other way. If, of course, Ukraine expects to survive as a single state,” Chizhov concluded.
